1) The USA got crushed in the WBC last night, losing 11-1 in seven innings. It was truly a dark day for the American squad, whose chances of advancing to the next round are fading. My favorite reaction? Gerry Fraley of foxsports.com said that, "All that was lacking was American parents behind the dugout, telling their sons that they had tried hard." Journalists, reporters, and experts have all agreed that "this shouldn't happen to the Americans," but I think that people need to start realizing that there is a wealth of baseball talent all across the world. And while the game will always be America's "national past-time," the fact is that there are other teams that are just better.

1) This weekend, Goose is finally getting his due. The disappointments no longer hang over him, as he will be receiving the respect he deserves in his induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame. "It was like being hit in the head with a brick," Gossage said of his election. "My head just went numb...it was crushing." Gossage also added, "I don't think any player ever said, 'Hey, I'm going to be a Hall of Famer.' All you want to do is be a big leaguer. That's all I ever wanted to do, put on a big-league uniform one time, and that one time turned into 22 years. I still have to pinch myself that I had that kind of career and now to be elected to the Hall of Fame, it's just off the charts."
